YouTube TV subscribers could lose Disney channels this week

Google recently threatened to pull YouTube and YouTube TV from Roku’s platforms before the two parties eventually agreed to a new deal last week. The dust has just settled on this agreement, but it turns out that Google is now dealing with another streaming dispute.

The company warned YouTube TV subscribers in a blog post that its deal with Disney for various Disney channels expires on Friday, December 17 and that the two parties haven’t come to a new agreement yet. Google claims that it wants Disney to offer YouTube TV “the same rates that services of a similar size pay” for the channels.

What options are on the table?

“If Disney offers us equitable terms, we’ll renew our agreement with them,” Google explained. “However, if we are unable to reach a deal by Friday, the Disney-owned channels will no longer be available on YouTube TV and we will decrease our monthly price by $15, from $64.99 to $49.99.”

It added that this price cut would be in effect while the channels are unavailable on YouTube TV. So a new agreement would result in the price jumping back to $64.99 a month.

Some of the most prominent Disney-owned channels on YouTube TV right now include ESPN, ABC stations, FX, the Disney Channel, and National Geographic.

Interestingly enough, Google is also recommending that people sign up for the $14 a month Disney Plus Bundle in the event of the deal expiring with no resolution. This bundle includes ESPN, Hulu, and Disney Plus.
