Xiaomi launching 5.5-inch Redmi Note in May - octa-core power for under $200

VP for Xiaomi Global, Hugo Barra, has given out some quick info for a new smartphone for the Asian market. The Redmi Note will be available in May to customers in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, with further markets soon after that.

The Redmi Note will come with the octa-core MediaTek MTK6592 chipset, a 5.5″ 720p IPS display with full lamination TP, Dual-SIM with dual-standby and a 3200 mAh battery. 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD support. 5MP/13MP front/rear cameras and comes in two configurations, 1.4GHz with 1GB RAM or 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM.

The best part of all, the 1.4GHz, 1GB model will sell for $129 (CNY799) and the more powerful 1.7GHz, 2GB model only $30 more at $159 (CNY999.)

The Redmi Note will run MIUI v5, which is based on Android 4.2 Jellybean. Available radios include WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. Dual-SIM will operate TD-SCDMA/HSPA on the first SIM slot, GSM/EDGE on the second slot.
