Xiaomi accidentally uses Apple ads to promote product

As first spotted by a pair of sites (CX Live and Daring Fireball, via MacRumors), Xiaomi uploaded an Apple ad to its own website — as well as several others — to promote its new Mimoji, which are eerily similar to Apple’s similarly-named Memoji.

Xiaomi claims that the uploading of a competitor’s ad to promote its own product was an accident. The ads have since been removed and Xiaomi’s public relations general manager, Xu Jieyun, explained that Xiaomi staff had “uploaded the wrong content” to the sites.

If one were to create a Venn diagram of what Mimoji are as compared to Memoji, you would likely have a single, solid-color circle. The Mimoji system allows you to create 3D avatars of yourself using facial recognition. Once you get an avatar created, you can then customize it with eyewear, hats, and other accessories.
