Editor’s note: We will continue to update this list of the best phones under 15,000 rupees as more become available.

Poco M4 Pro

Poco’s first-ever launch, with the F1, was all the rage, and while it took a while for the company’s next release, the Poco X2 was an exciting option. Poco is certainly not waiting as long between releases anymore. The company has upped its game, particularly in the affordable segments, with a slew of impressive launches. It follows up the impressive Poco M3 Pro 5G, one of the first phones in this price segment with 5G-support, with the even better Poco M4 Pro.

The biggest upgrade from its predecessor is the processor, with the M4 Pro packing the faster MediaTek Dimensity 810. The camera gets a boost too, with a 50MP primary shooter and a 16MP selfie cam this time around. However, the camera layout on the back is quite misleading, since it’s only a dual-camera setup, even though it looks like there are three or more cameras. Other specs stay the same from the previous generation, like the 90Hz display refresh rate and the huge 5,000mAh battery.

Realme 9

Every OEM is hoping to knock Xiaomi out of the top spot, and it’s become a fascinating game of one-upmanship in the budget-friendly segment in India. One company that is giving Xiaomi a run for its money is Realme. The latter is hoping to continue its impressive run with its latest affordable smartphone — the Realme 9.

Realme brings the budget-friendly phone back under the 15,000 rupee mark after its predecessor fell right outside the limitations of this list. At first glance, though, it might seem like a downgrade compared to the Realme 8i. The Realme 9 comes with a 90Hz display refresh rate (instead of 120Hz), a 48MP primary camera instead of 50MP, and the same battery. What makes it stand out is the Dimensity 810 processor that brings 5G-support with it. The changes also help bring the price back down. However, if you’re okay without 5G, the 8i remains an excellent option for even cheaper.

Realme Narzo 50

Realme continues to expand its budget-friendly portfolio with the latest additions to its Narzo series. If you are okay with giving 5G a skip, the Narzo 50 is arguably the better phone when compared to the Realme 9, at least on paper.

It comes with the MediaTek Helio G96 processor, a display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP primary camera, and gives you more RAM and storage for the price. The 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage version falls just outside the limits of this list with its 15,549 rupee price tag. While 5G is expected to roll out in India at end of 2022 or early 2023, it’s definitely worth giving the feature a miss and saving some money with the Realme Narzo 50.

Redmi Note 11

There may be more competition in the affordable segment now, but Redmi continues to rise to the challenge. The company raises the bar once again with the Redmi Note 11, which stands out with a useful new addition.

You’ll have to opt for the more expensive Redmi Note 11 Pro series if you want 5G, but the standard Note 11 impresses in every other aspect. You get a 90Hz display refresh rate. A 50MP camera headlines the quad-camera setup, and the Snapdragon 680 is a very capable mid-ranger.  And you can get the 6GB of RAM version for under 15,000 rupees. On a list where the specs look mostly the same, the Redmi Note 11 manages to differentiate itself a little bit. The phone also comes with Alexa as the voice assistant of choice.

Redmi Note 11 specs:

Samsung Galaxy M12

Samsung launched its latest additions to its popular M-series of smartphones. The new phones have managed to retain the company’s aggressive pricing model, making the Galaxy M12 one of the best phones you can get for under 15,000 rupees.

The Galaxy M12 keeps many features and even the general design language from the previous generations and essentially brings these higher-end features to a lower price bracket. It comes with a 6.5-inch 90Hz screen and a massive 6,000mAh battery. In comparison, the Redmi Note 10 offers a smaller 5,000mAh battery, albeit with 33W charging, and a 60Hz screen.

It doesn’t have the fastest processor in this price range though, and the camera setup is par for the course for this category with a quad-camera setup headlined by a 48MP camera. There’s no doubt that Samsung is looking to take on Xiaomi and Realme with these phones, and the Galaxy M12 is certainly up to the task.
