Sprint Version of Samsung Galaxy S II Gets FCC Nod

Yesterday we reported that a QWERTY variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II–said to be named the Samsung Galaxy Attain–is rumored to be on its way to AT&T. We now have word that Sprint’s version has just made it through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) early this week.

Assigned the FCC ID A3LSPHD710, the Samsung Galaxy Within (the rumored rebrand for Sprint) carries CDMA/EvDO and WiMAX radios, according to FCC documents. The device also has capability for Bluetooth and dual-band Wireless-N Wi-Fi.

The other week, This is my next published a blurry photo of the Samsung Within’s textured back side. Interestingly, the position of the camera array shown on the photo matches that in the FCC documents for the SPH-D710.

FCC documents for the Samsung Galaxy Within shows the device to be a few millimeters taller (5 mm) and wider (3 mm) than the Samsung Galaxy S II released in Europe. The bigger body, presumably, is due to the presence of the WiMAX radios.

With mandatory FCC certifications already in the clear, the next big event would be the Samsung Galaxy Within’s release date. Regarding that, we have no confirmed info yet, although a late August or early September launch on Sprint seems possible–that is, if the rumor about Verizon’s being the first to release its Samsung Galaxy S II version (the Samsung Galaxy Function) holds water.
