Sony Xperia Z slated for February 9 release in Japan

Publish date: 2023-04-24

A couple of days ago, we rounded up all available information as to when the much-anticipated Sony Xperia Z will be sold. While many countries are scheduled for release sometime “during Q1,” Japan seems to be the first to take hold of the device, with a possible release date set as early as February 9.

Signifying a nearing launch, working demo units have already popped up in several Japanese retail stores. The electronics chain store Yodobashi Camera has done the same and relayed the golden date to the folks at TalkAndroid. However, the lack of an official statement to back it up means possible rescheduling, as such is the nature of the mobile world. What seems to be guaranteed is a March global release for the phone.

There’s no official pricing announced yet, although UK online store Expansys puts the price for pre-orders at £529.99.

Ever since it made its way into the CES trade show, the Sony Xperia Z has been generating a lot of buzz all over media outlets. There has been so few remarkable innovation these days, but the Z attracts some attention thanks to its resistance to water and dust – a first for a Full HD smartphone. Also don’t forget the fact that it can perform one touch mirroring or sharing its media content via NFC technology to other Sony-branded electronics such HDTVs and wireless headphones. While it unfortunately runs on the older Android 4.1, Sony promises to release a 4.2 update “shortly after launch.”
