Samsung Galaxy Grand in India receives software update with Group Play

Publish date: 2022-12-06

While we expected the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 to receive certain features of the company’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S4, who would have thought that one of the first smartphones to receive such an update would be the Samsung Galaxy Grand. Well, this update includes just one feature, but it’s something.

The many Samsung Galaxy Grand owners in India will be receiving a small OTA update that brings the Group Play feature to the 5-inch mid-ranger. Group Play on the Samsung Galaxy S4, as we know,  allows users to simultaneously play the same track on up to eight devices, and even create a 5.1 surround system, along with support for multiplayer games.

Unfortunately, the update for the Samsung Galaxy Grand is a very trimmed down version of the feature. Group Play on this smartphone will allow you to share pictures, documents, and music with Galaxy Grand users over the same WiFi network or using WiFi Direct. You can probably play the music files you’ve shared at the same time, otherwise the Group Play name makes no sense, other than being a glorified file sharing application among Galaxy Grand owners.

The 27.86 MB update will be over the air, but if you haven’t received the notification yet, you can try Settings – About Phone – Software Update to download it. If you’ve received the update already and have tried out the new Group Play feature, do share your experiences in the comments section below.
