Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could hit stores before S11 series

Publish date: 2022-05-27

According to Korea’s Yonhap News outlet, Samsung will launch the clamshell foldable phone (said to be the Galaxy Fold 2) alongside the Galaxy S11 series in February. But the outlet adds that the new foldable will be available for sale “immediately” after the event.

It’s unclear if this release timeline only applies to the home market of Korea or if it applies to the likes of the US and Europe as well. But Yonhap’s sources say Samsung is in talks with all three mobile carriers in Korea to release the device.

The sources add that the Galaxy Fold 2 (or whatever the new foldable is called) will have a price in the “mid-$1,000 range.” This is slightly more expensive than the ~$845 price claimed by the Korea Herald. Meanwhile, the original Galaxy Fold has a retail price of roughly $2,000.

Opinions

Either way, it suggests that Samsung has far more confidence in this design than it did in the original Galaxy Fold. The Korean firm pushed its original Galaxy Fold launch back from April to September after reviewers reported major display defects.

Samsung’s new foldable is also tipped to offer ultra-thin glass on the main screen, enabling better scratch resistance. So it looks like the new phone will be better than the Galaxy Fold in at least one way.
