TL;DR

Google still hasn’t announced a public beta for Android 13. It’s expected to land at the upcoming virtual I/O meetup in May. However, we may now have an idea of when Samsung phones could get their first taste of the new Android version.

According to SamMobile‘s sources, Samsung could start the One UI 5.0 open beta program based on Android 13 as early as July. This should give the company a good headstart for testing the new firmware before its stable release later in the year.

July is also when Android 13 is expected to hit platform stability as per Google’s release schedule. If Samsung rolls out the One UI 5.0 beta program around the same time, it would definitely be a welcome move for users who would have been expecting it around fall.

For reference, the company only started beta testing the Android 12-based One UI 4 update in September last year. It was, however, the first smartphone vendor to release the stable Android 12 build merely 41 days after Google rolled it out for the Pixels.

Before you get too excited about Samsung’s preponed Android 13 release timeline, know that it is not set in stone. SamMobile says that Samsung’s plans are tentative and could change, for better or worse.

If the company does end up releasing the Android 13 beta early, the Galaxy S22 series in Samsung’s home market should be the first to get it. The program should eventually expand to other Samsung devices and markets in the months that follow.
