Poco teases a Poco F1 successor, but what should you expect?

TL;DR

2018’s Poco F1 is arguably one of the most important releases in recent years, showing that you could get flagship power without actually spending flagship money. It’s no wonder that fans have been clamoring for a successor since then.

Now, Poco India has teased what could be a follow-up to its first phone. The firm posted an open letter to fans (seen below), specifically mentioning the Poco F1’s 2018 release and questioning how it could follow up to this phone. More specifically, it explained that the F1’s “performance to price ratio was just ridiculous.”

The company also said no phone has been able to launch at the Poco F1’s price-point while still matching or beating its performance, adding that costs and tax have also increased since the 2018 phone’s release. But it hinted that it would be coming out with a device “like the F1 today” that wouldn’t be an “F by name.”

In other words, Poco India’s letter suggests that the Poco F1 successor will actually have a different naming convention. This is supported by the letter X being in bold, suggesting an X-series device. So what should we actually expect, then?

Well, the Redmi K40 has appeared on two regulatory websites, with both listings mentioning that it’s a Poco device. It’s entirely possible that the Poco F1 successor mentioned by the company is therefore a Redmi K40. This phone packs a Snapdragon 870 chipset, 120Hz OLED screen, and a 4,520mAh battery with 33W charging.

There have also been rumors of a Poco X3 Pro, and this name lines up with the Poco X-series suggestion seen in the letter above. More specifically, tipster Mukul Sharma says the X3 Pro will be equipped with a 120Hz display, an unannounced Snapdragon 860 chipset, and a 5,200mAh battery.

There’s no word on a launch date for this new handset though, but what do you think of a Poco F1 successor being a rebranded Redmi K40? Let us know by taking the poll above.
