Original Moto G 4G LTE coming to AT&T on Oct 10

After Motorola released the Moto G LTE based on the design of the original Moto G, it seemed pretty likely that the ‘second-gen’ Moto G would also end up supporting LTE or at least offering up a version that would. As it stands, right now the new Moto doesn’t have a 4G LTE variant and that leaves the older model to fill in this gap. With this in mind, AT&T has announced it will be offering the 1st-gen Moto G 4G LTE on October 10th for $199 without contract.

When a device is this cheap off-contract, going on-contract seems like a pretty silly move, but if you really want the option AT&T will let you pick up the device for $79.99 with a one-year contract. You can also get it through AT& Next for as little as $7.50 per month.

While it would be nice if Motorola released a revamped LTE model that was based on the 2nd-gen Moto G, this model is still more than capable of providing a decent Android experience. As a recap, you get a Snapdragon 400 quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD, a 4.5-inch 720p display, a 5MP camera, a 2070 mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat.

So is this actually worth picking up? For those that can live with only HSPA+ speeds, the new Moto G offers a bigger display, a better camera and a few other nifty tweaks at a price that’s actually less than this one, unlocked. Then again, if 4G LTE is a must-have, this is still one heck of a phone at a pretty solid price point. What do you think, worth buying or not?
