TL;DR

The OnePlus Nord didn’t make it to US shores, but the Nord N10 and N100 series indeed landed stateside. And it sounds like these budget-focused smartphones have boosted OnePlus’s marketshare at one US carrier.

Wave7 Research told PCMag (h/t: XDA) that Nord phones helped OnePlus reach 15% marketshare at US carrier Metro by T-Mobile. It noted that this was the highest share OnePlus has ever seen at a US network.

The tracking firm explains that Metro typically sells between 15 and 16 million smartphones annually. It adds that this therefore means over two million Nord phones could be sold this year if OnePlus can keep the momentum. Metro also offers the Nord N10 and N100 for free when you switch to the carrier, which is likely helping OnePlus achieve its high marketshare figure.

Wave7 also says that OnePlus has seen its marketshare rise at T-Mobile, albeit without disclosing figures. The research firm claimed that T-Mobile stores were only getting “minor shipments” of devices, but that they “tend to sell out.” This suggests there’s even more room to grow for OnePlus as a result.

News of OnePlus’s growing marketshare at Metro and T-Mobile comes a short while after Counterpoint Research said it was the only manufacturer to grow its US marketshare in 2020. It’s worth noting that 2020 marked the first time OnePlus ever offered budget devices (in the US and elsewhere) since 2015’s OnePlus X, so the challenge will be to keep that momentum and growth going in the months and years that follow.
