Official Oppo Find 7 specs, features, price and release date

Today in Beijing, Oppo introduced the  Find 7, an ambitious effort that the Chinese company hopes will cement its status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of high-end Android devices.

The Find 7 actually comes in two variants, Standard and Premium, but don’t let the name fool you – even the Standard model packs some of the best specifications you can get on a smartphone right now. And the Premium is a notch above, starting with the incredible Quad HD display we’ve been hearing about for so long. In fact, the Find 7 is the first device that will make it to Western shores to come with a Quad HD display, which means you get 2560 x 1440 pixels crammed into a screen that’s 5.5 inches across.

The display is the Find 7’s claim to fame, but that’s not the only special thing about it. From the processing package to the camera and battery, the Find 7’s specifications are at the very high-end of the roster. The Snapdragon 801 and the 3GB of RAM put the phone in very select company, with only a handful of competitors able to pose a challenge.

To clarify, the differences between the Standard and Premium variant of the Find 7 are the display, processor, storage, and RAM. The Standard packs a 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, as opposed to Quad HD display, Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage on the Premium.

The 3,000 mAh removable battery comes with fast charging technology that Oppo claims should allow charging to 75 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. The camera combines a Sony Exmor RS sensor with a six-component low aperture lens and powerful software features, including a super zoom mode that combines several images into one 50MP shot.

Oppo is known for creating striking, yet elegant devices, and the Find 7 is no exception. While the phone may seem large, its dimensions roughly match the Galaxy Note 3’s. The minimalist lines of the phone contrast with the woven carbon fiber back (in the premium version), while the standard model features a texturized plastic that gives it good grip.

Oppo put a lot of thought into its feature packed Color OS (based on Android 4.3). While you may find the user interface a bit heavy, and some software features are leaning towards gimmickry, other Oppo additions, such as the programmable gestures, are very useful. For what is worth, Oppo told us that a major update is coming to Color OS in the future, bringing changes in design and functionality.

Availability

The Oppo Find 7 Standard version (1080p) will become available from the beginning of April for $499. The Premium version will become available from the end of April for $599. More details on availability by market will be revealed in the coming weeks.
