NTT DoCoMo-bound Sony Yuga swings by the FCC, brings 2,330 mAh battery

Rumors about Sony’s 2013 Xperia line-up have been abundant lately, but as of right now we have only bits and pieces to cling on to and basically nothing official. It obviously doesn’t help that many of the “leaks” have contradicted one another, so seeing one of next year’s Sony smartphones getting FCC certification is a welcomed breath of fresh air.

The Xperia Yuga is one name that has come up quite a lot during the past few weeks, though by far the most interesting and crazy rumor about it has popped up less than 24 hours ago. According to that story, the Yuga was supposed to come packing an Exynos 5 quad-core CPU, 3 GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery, which sounded like something out of a futuristic sci-fi movie.

Unfortunately, at least one of those cuckoo specs is now very unlikely to become reality – the 3,000 mAh battery. Instead, the Yuga that swooshed past the FCC only brought a dream-crushingly meager 2,330 mAh ticker.

Don’t get us wrong, that’s not the world’s absolute worst battery, being actually 300 mAh heftier than HTC Droid DNA’s, but it just doesn’t sound like 2013 high-end technology. Then again, we have to clear up one thing – the Yuga we spotted at the FCC, aka the SO-02E, is most definitely a Japan-exclusive model to be released on NTT DoCoMo, so it might rock different specs than “international” versions.

There’s not much else the FCC internal docs reveal, other than some boring GSM, W-CDMA, Bluetooth and Wireless bands, all of which correspond with DoCoMo’s requirements, 4G LTE support (big shocker – not), and NFC compatibility. We now also know that the Yuga is set to come in black (now that’s precious intel – not), while everything else is X-Files material.

Oh, well, at least this listing doesn’t shatter all our hopes and dreams and we’re left crossing our fingers for the 16 MP cam, the 128 GB of storage, the 3 GB of RAM and the Samsung Exynos chip that all sound oh so marvelous.
