Nexus 5 to receive Android 5.0.1 today, according to Sprint and T-Mobile

In a somewhat ironic twist of fate, Google’s “pure” Nexus program has paradoxically become less forthcoming that it originally seemed. After it was announced that the Galaxy Nexus wouldn’t receive KitKat due to its Texas Instruments CPU, a small hole started to form in the hearts of Android devotees. This expanded when the Nexus 4 was updated (at the time) sans the Google Now launcher the Nexus 5 shipped with.

Lollipop has been ripe with hard spots as the rollout has been time intensive for Nexus, while some OEM devices already have it. For those with the Nexus 5, some relief is in order as Sprint and T-Mobile have announced the 5.0.1 update is now on the move to LG’s second Google device.

The update will bring the software version to number LRX22C. You can check for its availability from the Settings>About device>Software update section of the Nexus 5. Flashable OTA files for Lollipop 5.0.1 for some Nexus devices can be found here, and the Nexus 5 will be joining soon.

While this minor bug fix update isn’t much to look at, the question of what Google plans to do in the future to get the Nexus program back “in-line” with user’s expectations remains open.
