Meet the Hisense X1, a 6.8-inch Android 4.4 KitKat smartphone set to launch in the U.S. this summer

Publish date: 2023-07-04

The Hisense X1 will pack some flagship specs inside a plastic body. We’re looking at a 6.8-inch Full HD (1080p resolution) IPS display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage 13-megapixel camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3900mAh battery. As for size, the phone/tablet measures 152.8 x 79 x 9.7 mm.

The Hisense X1 will run Android 4.4 KitKat with a “light skin” on top at launch, although the version shown around at CES had Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board. Unfortunately, the handset will not have 4G LTE connectivity in the USA, so potential buyers will have to be happy with HSPA+ Internet browsing speeds.

Despite its rather high-end specs, the Hisense X1 will be sold as a mid-range device, although it’s not clear when the device will ship or how much it will cost. What’s known is that the phone will be released in China at first, and then launch in the U.S. under the Silver brand.

Hisense is in talks with two U.S. operators, although it’s not clear whether any of them will pick up the device. However, the large phone / tablet will be available as an unlocked purchase once it launches.
