Low-end T-Mobile Huawei Prism 3G Android phone officially unveiled

Publish date: 2023-02-13

Huawei might have changed its marketing strategy here and there and started to realize that it has to make a push in the high-end smartphone segment. But old habits die hard, which is why the Chinese are still churning low-end Android handsets. The latest entry level gadget to come from the makers of the world’s thinnest and the world’s most powerful smartphones is called the Prism and will be marketed as a T-Mobile exclusive device.

The T-Mobile Huawei Prism was unveiled yesterday without much fuss and will start selling off-contract in just a couple of days and on-contract in three weeks. The phone’s pricing is affordable by any standards and you will be able to get this little guy for as little as $149.99 (the SIM-free version) or $19.99 (after a $50 mail-in rebate), with a new T-Mobile 2 year agreement.

For that kind of money, you probably wouldn’t expect much from Huawei and…well, you would be right. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, the Prism will feature a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen with 480 x 320 pixels resolution, as well as a 3.2-megapixel rear-facing camera with digital zoom and video recorder.

Other known features include 3G connectivity, 512 MB of on-board storage, A-GPS, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, microUSB and a 1,400 mAh battery. If you’re worried about the low internal memory, you should know that Huawei will be throwing in a free 2 GB SD card, which is pretty cool.

The Prism will be powered by a 600 MHz single-core processor (unmentioned model or maker), while the RAM is still kept under wraps for some reason. As for the phone’s design and looks, there’s clearly nothing special to mention, but I guess that, for its price range, the device is pretty elegant and decently slim.

If you’re on a very tight budget right now, but you’d still like to own an Android handset with some basic functionality, the Huawei Prism might just be the perfect choice for you. Look for the phone starting May 6 at Best Buy, May 9 at Walmart, and May 23 at T-Mobile (both online and in nationwide stores). Also, don’t be surprised if you’ll be seeing the phone listed as just the “T-Mobile Prism 3G”, as it’s customary to cut Huawei’s name from the branding of such modest low-end devices!

How about it, folks? Could the Prism be that dirt-cheap, yet decent phone you’ve been waiting for? Are you willing to even give the device a chance? Let us know in the comments section below!
