LG says the KS360 is not going to be its first Android phone

LG KS360 - no Android version coming

Many sites have been re-hashing a loosely worded story posted by T3.com that stated that LG’s KS360 QWERTY slider would be re-released with the Android OS this summer as LG’s first Android powered device.

This didn’t sit well with me for a number of reasons.  Firstly, it simply makes no sense to release the same device a year later with only a new OS.  Secondly, the KS360 has a QVGA resolution display.  Kogan’s Agora smartphone got killed off supposedly for having the same resolution display, 320×240 pixel, because supposedly it wasn’t enough to ensure future app compatibility.

So I decided to ask the source that T3 was quoting, LG Mobile UK’s Jeremy Newing, the company’s head of Marketing.

As I suspected, Jeremy says that the T3 piece is inaccurate, and that he never said that the KS360 would be re-released as an Android based device.  He did say, however, that the company is considering a similar form factor for social networking focused Android phones in the future.

That’s it.  Just talking about the possibility of using the same form factor at some point in the future.  Not even specifically for LG’s first Android product (of an expected 3 this year).

Score one for common sense.
