The mobile industry is always trying to make smartphones stronger, introducing tougher materials and improving reinforced glass to keep that image nice and clear. The newest and best glass around seems to be sapphire, which Apple uses for the iPhone 5s’ home button and camera glass. Now it seems Kyocera is also adopting this type of glass.

Marques Brownlee (otherwise known as MKBHD) recently got a hold of an iPhone 6 sapphire crystal glass, straight from the production line. He put it to the test and it took all the torture like a champion. You can take a look at his video right below.

As it stands, it also seems like Kyocera did their homework before jumping ships. A video of Kyocera testing and comparing sapphire glass against impact-resistant glass was recently uploaded. The glass was placed in what seems like a smartphone-looking test case, only to be tortured and destroyed.

It turns out Kyocera’s own tests go in line with what Marques Brownlee discovered previously. Sapphire crystal easily beats whatever reinforced glass Kyocera was using for these tests.

Let’s keep in mind these are all nothing but rumors and leaks, so let’s not hold our breath on anything just yet. One thing is for sure, though, the era of sapphire-clad smartphones is coming. The crystal looks promising, but we will have to run our very own tests before passing judgement.
