Gateway Ships Its A60 Tablet

Gateway is now in the tablet game and just started shipping its first Android tablet. Named the Gateway TP Series A60, observant buyers would be able to recognize that the tablet isn’t a new entry to the market. If you look at the specs closely, the A60 seems to be a rebranded version of the Acer Iconia Tab A500. This should be no surprise. After all, Gateway is now fully owned by Acer and it would be beneficial to the Taiwanese manufacturer to have another outlet for its product.

The A60 boasts a 10.1-inch touchscreen display with 1280 x 800 resolution and runs on a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU. This is backed by 1GB of RAM, which should be sufficient enough for your tablet needs. If that wasn’t enough, it has a 5-megapixel rear-facing auto-focus camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. This is for video conferencing and web chat. The A60 also has 16GB of internal storage. That’s enough for most of the things you will be using the tablet for, like movies and games. However, the storage capacity is expandable with the built-in SD card slot.

The A60 will be using Android 3.1 Honeycomb out of the box and features the usual tablet features: WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and two USB ports. The 6520mAh battery it uses lets it operate for up to 8 hours. Aimed at the Canadian market, it should be a good alternative for many seeking a tablet.
