Game Boy games on Switch could land this month

TL;DR

As of today, your Nintendo Switch Online subscription gives you unlimited access to over 100 NES and SNES games. You play the games on your Nintendo Switch through official Nintendo emulators. They allow you to do things you could never do on the original consoles, such as rewind, save at any time, and play online with friends.

In response to this, Nintendo Life confirmed with its own sources that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are likely coming to the Switch very soon — possibly even this month.

The Game Boy launched in 1989 and saw over 1,000 compatible games. The Game Boy Color launched in 1998 and saw nearly 1,000 games in its lifetime (it also played most of the original Game Boy games). That means Nintendo has nearly 2,000 games it could bring to the Switch Online service.

However, it is unlikely this new aspect to the retro console service would include Game Boy Advance titles. That’s not to say that wouldn’t happen in the future, but it likely won’t happen this year.

You can already play some Game Boy games on Switch, such as the original Final Fantasy Adventure, which is available in the Collection of Mana package. Keep that in mind, because the existence of those ports could mean you won’t see those games in the Switch Online service, should this rumor prove true.
