It wasn’t long ago that 8GB of RAM was considered massive for phones. It was even considered a lot for computers. Now, smartphones offer 12GB and even as much as 16GB of RAM. While that’s arguably an overkill, more RAM is never a bad thing, especially if you plan to keep your handset for several years. More RAM doesn’t necessarily mean your phone is future-proof, but it certainly helps.

If you’re in the market for a phone with 8GB RAM, you’ll be happy to hear there are quite a few of them to choose from — check out the best ones below.

The best phones with 8GB of RAM:

Editor’s note: We will regularly update this list of the best phones with 8GB of RAM as new devices launch.

1. Samsung Galaxy S22 series

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

Samsung’s new Galaxy S22 family arrived at the February Unpacked event, bringing three distinct models. However, only two of them can be had with 8GB of RAM, as the base Ultra model features 12G of memory.

The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus both sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset onboard in the US and select markets. Other markets get the Exynos 2200 to keep the lights on, and 45W charging is back on the menu. Well, it’s available for the Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra — the base Galaxy S22 tops out at 25W. Samsung also made the curious decision to shrink its batteries this year. The Galaxy S22 offers a 3,700mAh cell, down from 4,000mAh, and the Galaxy S22 Plus dropped from 4,800mAh to 4,500mAh.

Other specs and features include a triple-camera setup at the back, an IP68 rating, and Android 12 with Samsung’s One UI 4 on top.

2. Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Samsung’s affordable 5G smartphones pack more punch than ever, especially with the launch of the Galaxy A53. It may not look too different from its predecessor, the A52 5G, but there’s not much more you could ask for in a $450 phone.

The A53 features a Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Then there’s the camera setup, headlined by an impressive 64MP shooter. You also get dual-SIM capabilities, with the second slot doubling as a microSD card slot, but the headphone jack is no more. The 5,000mAh battery also comfortably lasts through an entire day and beyond. Once you drain the battery, you can tap into 25W fast charging to get back on the go.

The Galaxy A53 is available with 6GB of RAM in the US for now, and we hope that the 8GB version will join it soon. There’s no word on when that may happen, though. However, the international model comes with 8GB of RAM and is also available on Amazon — but costs a bit more.

3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Those looking for a foldable phone with 8GB of RAM have a great new option from Samsung. While the other Samsung flagships might have an edge in certain respects, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3’s lure is that it can be folded in half, much like a classic flip phone. Unfolding the device will showcase a sharp 6.7-inch 2,640 x 1,080 AMOLED display.

It finally packs near-flagship level internals, but the Z Flip 3 is still a little light in the battery department. Features include a Snapdragon 888 processor, up to 256GB of internal storage, and a 3,300mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 may be the best foldable smartphone made to date and certainly the most affordable. Even if the clamshell-style form factor isn’t as beneficial as something like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the quality of the hinge and improved display outweigh the negatives.

4. Poco X4 Pro

Harley Maranan / Android Authority

Poco first made waves a few years back with the Pocophone F1, and it’s evolved in many ways since then. Its portfolio has grown exponentially, and the Poco X4 Pro is one of its best efforts yet. The handset offers great bang for the buck and is also available in a version with 8GB of RAM.

The Poco X4 Pro packs an excellent OLED panel. It’s bright and crisp, and it’s backed up by two days of battery life. We were also impressed by the solid primary camera, though the peripheral options left something to be desired. You should have no problems taking the X4 Pro on adventures — the IP53 rating promises a degree of water and dust resistance.

While Poco’s offerings are not meant for the American market, they are readily available from Amazon. You can get the X4 Pro through the links below.

5. OnePlus 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro is definitely one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM, although it also comes with 12GB for those who want more. It’s one of the first phones launched in collaboration with Oppo, something you can tell by looking at the new design, which suits it well.

The OnePlus 10 has plenty of power under the hood thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The screen is large at 6.7 inches, and it looks incredible thanks to the AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also comes with OnePlus’ signature alert slider at the side and a triple-camera system at the back.

Pricing isn’t low, but this device competes very well in its market segment. You also get an IP68 rating, a large 5,000mAh battery, and 80W fast charging (65W in the USA).

6. Google Pixel 6

Google’s latest Pixel flagship has finally branched out from the single-configuration model. You can finally grab the Pixel 6 with either 128 or 256GB of storage, though the 8GB of RAM remains constant.

The 2021 flagship packs a fully revamped camera setup in the form of a rear camera bar. It offers a new 50MP main lens flanked by a 12MP ultrawide option. Around front, Google smacked an 8MP selfie lens into a central punch hole on the Full HD+ display. No matter the camera setup, you still have Google’s impressive image processing to work with, as well as a new Tensor chip on board.

Google’s Pixel 6 comes with a much larger 6.4-inch display after last year’s pocket-friendly 6-inch option. You can tap into a few new colors as well, including Sorta Seafoam and Kinda Coral. All Pixel models come with speedy updates, and years of guaranteed security support.

7. Sony Xperia 5 III

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

The Sony Xperia 5 III is one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM, especially now that its sibling Xperia 1 III has committed to 12GB of RAM. Both phones pack the same Snapdragon 888 chipset, though the smaller, more affordable device is our focus. Sony’s more affordable Xperia does let you choose between 128 and 256GB of storage.

Sony’s 2021 flagships are still fairly beefy in the camera department, offering triple 12MP shooters, though the Xperia 5 III skips the ToF sensor. You’ll find both phones equipped with 4,000mAh batteries, as well as side-mounted fingerprint readers.

The Xperia 5 III has critical improvements over the last generation, like upping the display refresh rate to 120Hz and adding new color options. There are impressive camera enhancements as well.

8. Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

The last 8GB of RAM phones on our list are also among the newest duos on the market. Xiaomi’s 11T Pro comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 onboard, but it’s officially dropped the Mi name. You’ll find an optional 12GB of RAM version as well, though the base model offers 8GB with either 128 or 256GB of storage.

Xiaomi tapped a triple rear camera setup to lead the charge with primary, ultrawide, and telemacro sensors. The 11T Pro also offers a healthy 5,000mAh battery that supports unreal 120W fast charging, has a hefty 6.67-inch display, and relies on an in-display fingerprint reader. Perhaps its biggest drawback is the software experience, though it’s slowly improving. Xiaomi’s MIUI skin leaves a bit to be desired, but you can always change the look and feel of the OS and add new features with a launcher like Nova.

Over on the more affordable Xiaomi 11T, you’ll find MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200U processor keeping the lights on. It doesn’t offer a version with 12GB of RAM, but you get the same powerful camera array. Xiaomi kept its hefty 5,000mAh battery cell as well, though it cut the charging to a still-blistering 67W.

There you have it. These are our picks for the best phones with 8GB RAM, although there are quite a few others out there to choose from. We’ll add new devices as they launch, so check back often.
