FreedomPop brings free data to tablets, gives them voice calling as well

Publish date: 2022-07-22

FreedomPop has long offered free Wi-Fi data through hotspots, allowing consumers to add more data through paid options. In 2013 they expanded this effort by introducing a free phone service and most recently they have confirmed plans to expand their phone services outside of the United States. That’s not all, however, as today FreedomPop is bringing free data to the tablet realm for those in the United States.

Interestingly enough, the free tablet plan is identical to what the company gives smartphone users: 500MB free LTE data, 500 texts and 200 voice messages. Just like with phones, there are also add-on packages you can buy if you need more data.

If you are scratching your head about these last two freebies, keep in mind that FreedomPop’s texting and calling actually works through mobile broadband and a special app. Why would you want to text or talk on a tablet? FreedomPop says this could be important for those that want a secondary line or want to use an app that requires a phone number without tying it to their phone. Obviously you aren’t obligated to use the calling minutes or texts, but they are a nice (if unnecessary) extra.

As for the tablets that work with the service? FreedomPop is selling the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 for $199 or a refurbished original iPad Mini for $319. Thankfully you can also bring your own device, provided it is compatible with Sprint’s LTE service. For those interested in learning more about FreedomPop’s services, you’ll want to head on over to their website.
