ASUS launches fashionable MeMO Pad 7

The design of the new tablet focuses on color, style, thickness and weight. Available in Rose Champagne, Gentle Black and Burgundy Red, the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 (ME572CL and ME572C) are just 8.3 mm thick (which is thinner than many smartphones) and weighs just 269 grams. The “CL” model has built-in 4G-LTE covering a large number of frequency ranges (800/850/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600MHz), it is also 10 grams heavier.

Both models have a 7 inch LED-backlit 1920 x 1200 IPS screen and are powered by a quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 running at 1.83 GHz. The GPU is the IMG PowerVR Series 6 – G6430. There is also 2GB of RAM . Both are available with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.

The battery is a 15Wh Li-polymer battery which should give at least 11 hours of usage. According to ASUS the battery life was measured by looping 720P video, brightness at 100nits, external microphone on, WLAN/3G on and Gmail logged in for email and updates. Which sounds like a pretty good test, so the battery life number should be close to real life usage.

Both run Android 4.4, but ASUS specifically mention that the Intel CPU is a 64-bit processor, which means that there could be a hope of an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Android L in the future, but there is no official word. On top of Android, ASUS also adds its own customizations via its ZenUI interface.

ZenUI includes ‘What’s Next’ advanced scheduling software, which helps you manage your time. It is also a feature that ASUS has put into the ZenWatch. Plus there are other added features like the “Do It Later” task list.

The price announced at IFA was 199 Euros. In the UK it is expected to retail for £179. Pricing for other regions hasn’t yet been released. It is expect that the device will start shipping in the next few weeks.
