Android-powered Peloton Exercise Bike surpasses Kickstarter goal

Publish date: 2022-07-29

Want an ultra high-end exercise bike with a built-in tablet running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean? The folks at exercise equipment company Peloton think some people do, and their first product’s performance on Kickstarter has proven them right. At the time of this writing, the Peloton Exercise Bike project has accumulated more than $260,000 in funding, greater than the initial goal of $250,000 by a large margin.

Peloton seems keenly aware that vanilla Android isn’t what customers who want a set-it-and-forget-it setup are probably willing to tolerate. To simplify things, the company’s built a UI that incorporates both access to Peloton’s exercise-related multimedia, and more advanced features like music playback and chat. Users can tune in to live and on-demand biking classes, for example, and also communicate with each other via the bike’s built-in camera and microphone.  Peloton’s cloud service will also track usage stats, award achievements for exercise milestones, and display a sortable list of leadersboards.

If the Peloton Exercise Bike sounds like your thing, it’ll be available through Kickstarter until July 24 for the reduced price of $1,500. Peloton hasn’t yet determined a retail release date or pricing.
