Amazon Cloud Drive Photos update includes major changes

Publish date: 2022-11-17

With all the cloud storage options available it’s easy to forget about one of two of them from time to time, and Amazon is trying to remind everyone that it has a cloud storage service with a huge update to the Amazon Cloud Drive Photos app.

The newest update to Amazon Cloud Drive Photos bumps the app from version 1.9 all the way to version 3.0 to show just how much has changed. The app features a completely redesigned photo viewing experience, which the changelog says will “bring enjoyment back to viewing photos and videos on the go.”

The new version of the app has a simpler navigation that follows some standard Android guidelines like the left-side settings panel. That panel also includes a new status bar to show you the status of you automatic and manual uploads, though it’s hard to imagine why Amazon didn’t include a status bar in older versions of the app. Amazon also improved the sorting in the app, letting you put videos into their own folder and sort photos and videos by date and name.

Of course, Amazon Cloud Drive Photos still automatically uploads your photos and videos to the cloud service. Amazon offers 5GB of storage for free, which isn’t a whole lot compared to Google Drive, but still not bad if you mainly use it for photos.

Amazon Cloud Drive Photos still looks closer to Amazon’s Kindle Fire OS than stock Android, but that’s to be expected. At least the company has a signature style for all of its apps that it sticks to.

Have you tried Amazon Cloud Drive Photos? Or do you use a different cloud service to back up your photos?
