TL;DR

Following the ban on popular apps like TikTok and PUBG earlier in the year, India has now banned 43 additional Chinese apps citing security concerns.

Citing section 69A of the Information Technology Act, the order issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology claims that the apps are “engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.”

The latest round of apps to be banned includes the popular e-commerce website, AliExpress. The app is popular amongst drop shippers, traders, and anyone looking to buy components. The ban on the app effectively places a check on the import of goods from China into India.

Another popular app to be banned is Lalamove. The logistics app has been gaining popularity as a hyperlocal service for same-day deliveries. The service operates a large fleet in India and it remains to be seen what kind of impact the ban has on the company’s offline operations.

The apps join a list of 41 other apps that include social media and dating applications as well as the likes of utilities like CamCard.

India initially banned 59 apps back in June and an additional 118 apps in September following border skirmishes with China. Here’s the full list of Chinese apps banned by the Indian government.
