Alcatel One Touch Shockwave comes to US Cellular today

The Alcatel One Touch Shockwave was announced for US Cellular customers in a press release today. While it isn’t going to wow anyone with its specs, the phone’s tough construction and low price point may be exactly what some users are looking for.

Specs

The Alcatel One Touch Shockwave is powered by an 800 MHz processor, has a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, so those looking for the latest and greatest may want to look elsewhere.

Where it lacks in specs, the phone makes up in durability. The Alcatel One Touch Shockwave has shock resistant casing, Dragontail tempered glass, and a sealed case design with rubber port covers to help make the phone more resistant to water and dirt. The phone also features an anti-slip finish to help protect against accidental drops.

Pricing

Something else that may draw users to the Shockwave, while not technically a feature of the phone, is its pricing. The Alcatel One Touch Shockwave is available for $49.99 with a smartphone-compatible US cellular plan.

Going even further for users with an eye on their wallet, the Shockwave features a built-in app called Traffic Manager. It monitors both data and calling, and warns users when they are close to their monthly limit on either. The phone also has built-in apps for social media, productivity and entertainment.

4G or Not?

While the press release doesn’t mention whether the phone is 4G compatible, the 3G icon in the press photo indicates that it likely isn’t. Again, the phone goes on sale through US Cellular today. For more details, see the press release at the bottom of this article.
