A big battery entertainment tablet for $400

TL;DR

TCL is bringing a new entertainment tablet to the US market. Dubbed the TCL Tab Pro, the new mid-range slate packs plenty of respectable core features at a fair price.

Billed as a “reliable entertainment and productivity tool,” the Tab Pro features a 10.36-inch 2,000 x 1,200 display coated in protective Dragontrail glass. Those hoping for a quick refresh rate will have to settle for the standard 60Hz, but TCL does talk up its SDR-to-HDR upscaling tech.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC is the silicon of choice, mated to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Powering this setup is an 8,000mAh battery with 18W charging support via USB-C. TCL claims that’s enough juice to last up to 17 hours between charges, while top-ups take four hours to complete. The tablet can also reverse charge other devices too, but this requires a third-party OTG cable.

Other niceties include a microSD card slot, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 13MP rear camera with an 8MP selfie camera, and stereo speakers. Oddly, TCL omits a 3.5mm headphone jack from the Tab Pro but does include a USB-C to headphone jack dongle in the box. Finally, the TCL Tab Pro runs on Android 11.

TCL Tab Pro price and availability

TCL’s first 5G tablet in North America is now available as a Verizon exclusive device for $399.99. For this fee, the TCL Tab Pro’s closest Android competition comes from Samsung. The ~$349 Galaxy Tab S6 one-ups the Tab Pro with the included S Pen and faster chipset but settles for a slightly smaller battery.
