A 48MP phone with Moto Mod support?

We’ve already had our first supposed look at the Moto Z4 Play last month, showing a phone with Moto Mod support and much more. Now, a new leak may have given us a glimpse of the phone’s spec sheet.

According to 91Mobiles, citing a “reliable source,” the Moto Z4 Play will offer the SM6150 chipset (said to be the Snapdragon 675), 4GB to 6GB of RAM, and 64GB to 128GB of storage.

The leak also confirms an in-display fingerprint sensor, notched AMOLED screen, and a 3,600mAh battery. If the latter is confirmed, it would make for a substantial 600mAh bump over the Moto Z3 Play.

The previous render (seen above) also showed a single rear camera on the device, and it’s now believed that we’re looking at a 48MP shooter here. Oddly enough, 91Mobiles says Motorola is eschewing a Sony or Samsung sensor in favor of a 48MP sensor from Q Technology (model number S5KGM1SP). We don’t know much about this new shooter, but we hope it offers similar pixel-binning tech as the other two sensors. Otherwise, we’d expect some disappointing low-light results if the camera is fixed at 48MP.

A move to one rear camera would be pretty unexpected, especially as the Moto Z3 Play offered a 5MP depth sensor as a secondary shooter. But depth effects have come a long way, and the Google Pixel series shows that portrait mode can be fantastic on a single-camera smartphone.
